Work is continuing at pace on the recovery programme for Torbay following the severe damage caused by Storm Emma.
The Recovery Coordination Group at Torbay Council are continuing to meet on a daily basis to address and prioritise work. The council’s priority is to repair as much as they can by the Easter Bank Holiday.
Assessments of the damage continues and where possible work will commence on repairs.
Torbay Council would like to thank residents and local community groups for all their help with the clean-up. If you are aware of any waste that needs to be removed please contact your ward member and they will inform the relevant council officer. Please do not try to clear this yourselves.
If you own a business or are a tenant of the council that have been affected by the storm, Torbay Council and TDA can offer support. Please contact 01803 207948 for more information.
Key updates
The Geoplay Park on Paignton Green remains fenced off and will be closed until further notice. A number of assessments, including a visit from RoSPA the play safety inspector, need to take place before a detailed understanding of the damage and the repair work needed is known. The council are continuing to support the Paignton Town Community Partnership.
Goodrington South beach is being cleared today and discussions are taking place with the providers on re-establishing the temporary toilet block.
Oddicombe Beach will be cleared tomorrow and temporary repairs at Babbacombe will be taking place this week.
Surveys of the harbour fairways will also be taking place this week. This is to see if there are any risks to the safety of navigation.
With regard to waste collections, TOR2 are continuing to catch up but would like residents to know that if your collection remains uncollected at the end of Friday they will be collected next week, which is week commencing 12 March. Residents do not need to leave their containers out over the weekend and may wish to bring them in between 6 pm Friday 9 March to 6 am Monday 12 March.
The Beach huts that were moved at Preston are continuing to be reinstated. This recovery work is having an impact on the rollout of the huts that have been stored for the winter season. The Beach Hut team will be working hard to get all the huts ready for the start of the season on the 1 April but this may slip in some places. A timetable of when everyone’s beach huts will be in place is being worked on and this will be made available soon.
Unfortunately the short let beach huts at Meadfoot have suffered some damage. These have been assessed and work will be carried out soon to get these ready for the peak season.
Again we would like to remind the community not to carry out repair work in public areas but if you see damage please contact your ward councillor so the information can be collated and used as part of the council’s recovery plan.
For more regular updates on the recovery work please follow Torbay Council and Tor Bay Harbour Authorities Facebook and Twitter pages.
