Wraparound childcare programmes for parent and carers

Find out about the wraparound childcare programme

In Spring 2023, the government announced a national wraparound programme.

The aim is to support all working families to access wraparound childcare from 8am to 6pm, in their local area or on their school site.

Wraparound childcare is childcare that ‘wraps around’ the conventional school day. It is:

  • For primary-aged school children
  • Weekdays from 8am to 6pm, during term-time only
  • Provided by your local school or a childcare provider (this includes private settings and childminders)
Have a look here for a list of current providers.

All parents in England with primary school aged children are eligible to access wraparound childcare.

Providers will set their own fees so prices will vary.  If eligible, you can use Tax-Free childcare or Universal Credit childcare to help pay for the place.

If wraparound childcare is not currently available in your child’s school, you can speak with the school or send a letter, outlining the days of care required and any needs they may have. The school will take on board the needs of all parents and update you within a term. If it is not available, there may be other local childcare options you can consider.
