Report a child missing education

Find out what to do if you think a child is missing education.

Information relating to councillors and Council meetings are currently unavailable. We apologise for the inconvenience.

It is our responsibility to identify children missing from education, and ensure that they get back into it.

Any child of compulsory school age who is not currently attending school, or is being educated from home or elsewhere is missing education. It also covers children who are already attending Nursery or reception classes who are ‘missing’, as well as older children who are on roll at a school and have been missing through unauthorised absence for 10 consecutive days.

If you are aware of a child who is not currently attending school, or is being educated from home or elsewhere, please let us know and we will complete any checks with the relevant agencies.

Information for parents

If you decide to move away from Torbay, it is important that you let your child’s school know what school your child will be going to or at the very least, which Local Authority you will be living in.

Information for other Local Authorities

If you know of a child who has or is planning on moving from your Local Authority to Torbay, please tell us and provide us with as much detail as possible and we will ensure that you are kept up to date with where the child is and what school they are attending.
