Secondary school place offer

Find out how and when we tell you about a new Year 7 secondary place offer.

On 3 March 2025 you'll get an offer of a secondary school place for your child. We will give each child a place at the highest ranked school that can offer a place.

If the place is not at one of your preferred schools, we will offer a place at another school with an available place. This will be at the nearest school which has a place available.

We will contact you with an offer by:

  • email - if you applied online and asked us to email you
  • email - if you applied by post or email
  • post - if you don't have an email address, we will send your offer by second class post

We will tell you:

  • which school your child has been given a place at
  • why your child has not been allocated a place at another preferred school
  • how to appeal for a place at a school where the application has been refused
  • when you must submit your appeal by (28 March 2025)

For security reasons we can't:

  • tell you about an offer by phone
  • send responses to email addresses not provided before the offer date

You do not need to reply to us to accept your place at a secondary school. Some schools may contact you to confirm you are taking the place that you have been offered.

If you are not happy with the offer you can appeal the decision.

Late applications

Offers of places for late applications and changes of preference will be made on 25 April 2025.
