Tombstoning

Find out more information about tombstoning

Torbay’s coastline is approximately 22 miles long. It is a mix of beaches, coves, cliffs and rocks.  It provides many opportunities to enjoy the sea.

Some people like to jump from cliffs or high ledges into the sea.  This is called Tombstoning.  It can be exciting to do this, but it can also be very dangerous. It can leave someone with life changing injuries.  In some cases, people have died.

This leaflet and poster provide some safety advice. It gives tips about what to think about if someone wants to go tombstoning.  For example:

  • is it high tide or low tide
  • are there hidden rocks below the surface
  • can you get out of the water easily

These resources are free. You can print them off and share with anyone, or any groups, who you feel may benefit from reading them.  Please enjoy our waters – safely.
