Network Rail need to replace the bridge over the railway line in Livermead, next to Wheatridge Lane. Diversions will be in place and the works will run into the beginning of March.
All residents who live in the immediate area have been sent a letter by Network Rail
Timescales
Torbay Road, from Cockington Lane, has been closed from Monday 3 January and now will re-open on Friday 8 April. Initially the project as was due to finish in March but this has now been extended due to the need to relocate utilities and delays with the construction and delivery of the new bridge structure. You can read more about this delay on Network Rail’s webpage.
Network Rail will be working around the railway track between the hours of 7am and 6pm as well as on the track during 12am and 5am when no trains are running.
Diversions
As Torbay Road is a busy road between Torquay and Paignton, and to ensure that the residents living around the work are not impacted by increased traffic because of the road closure, if you are travelling from Torquay to Paignton the main diversion will be from the seafront up The Avenue, Shiphay Lane and along the ring road. The signs will direct you down Marldon Road into Paignton. This will be in reverse from Paignton to Torquay.
We ask that you only use the streets around the area of the bridge, like Wheatridge Lane, Cockington Lane etc. only if you need to gain access to properties and businesses in that area. Please use the main diversion as the preferred route.
If you are walking around the area, the diversion for pedestrians is from Torquay, walk along Cockington Lane under the railway bridge and then turn left onto Underhill Road, along Livermead Hill and onto Wheatridge Lane. If walking from Paignton, walk along Wheatridge Lane, Livermead Hill onto Underhill Road and then turn right onto Cockington Lane.
