Walking is an excellent way to get about and provides a wide range of health and environmental benefits.
Sadly, Torbay has the highest pedestrian casualty rate in the south west.
The key to creating a safe walking environment is to ensure all road users and pedestrians are aware of their responsibilities, especially when it comes to road safety.
Whether you are walking for leisure, to get to work, school or college, make sure you:
- Pay attention to your surroundings
- Teach young children to stop, look and listen by following the Green Cross Code
- Avoid distractions from handheld devices when crossing busy roads
- Are not influenced to take unnecessary risks
- Use footpaths and safe crossing points
- Are seen and visible, especially during darker mornings and evenings
- Do not park near school entrances or any zig zag markings
Let’s all do our bit and make Torbay’s roads safer.
