Given the success in Torbay over the past two years, the Ready for Work programme has been extended for a further 12 months. Following a review, some changes have been made to the scope and delivery of the programme to ensure it meets the needs of employers, the labour market, and residents.
Ready for Work is a comprehensive programme consisting of coaching sessions, work placements and in-work support, all delivered to help unemployed people become work ready and secure employment.
Since the programme launched in September 2019 it has supported up to 100 clients, resulting in 65% of those finding employment. The programme continued throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic by adapting how it was delivered, ensuring it was able to meet the needs of the clients.
Councillor Swithin Long, Torbay Council Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing, said: “It’s great that Ready for Work has already resulted in many residents finding employment and because of the success to date, it’s really positive that TDA are extending the programme. This promises to support many more people into sustainable employment”.
The programme will continue to be delivered across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, working with both the Department for Work and Pensions and organisations across our communities to ensure residents are able to access the support. Delivery of the programme will be intensified across Torquay specifically to compliment activity within the Torquay Town Investment Plan and through Torquay’s Town Deal.
Ed Atter, Chief Executive of Motiv-8, said: "Motiv-8 are delighted to be given the opportunity to extend the Ready for Work programme. Over the last 2 years our team of experienced coaches have supported people across Torbay to move forward and we are proud of our success to date. We look forward to building on this success".
The aim of the extended programme is to see a further 64 people into employment and support others through education, volunteering and training. Anybody who lives in Torbay and is out of work is eligible to enter the programme. Motiv-8 will work with local employers to enable work placements and help fill their vacancies. It is also an exciting opportunity for employers to invest in the community and local workforce.
