TDA and Midas reach the next stage of a purpose-built manufacturing facility at Claylands in Paignton.

The latest plans include ongoing earth works and preparation for highway works which start on Monday 11 May.

Councillor Swithin Long, Torbay Council Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing, said: “TDA and Midas are working hard to ensure that any impact from the global pandemic on this project is minimised as much as possible. The contractors have adapted how they work to follow Public Health England guidelines. It is great to see this project reach this important phase, while keeping everybody safe, to create a purpose-built manufacturing facility for a growing Torbay business.”

The new facility will provide 6,000m² of employment space and will be home to multinational manufacturing company Casting Support Systems (CSS) Group.

CSS Group remains operational during the COVID-19 crisis, manufacturing products for the pharmaceutical industry.

Andy McAdam, Executive Director at Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, said: “We are pleased to be able to continue to work on the project during this challenging period. We have a strong and longstanding relationship with TDA and we are pleased to be part of this critical project for the South West region and its businesses. We are in a fortunate position, that we have a loyal and robust local supply chain, who will support us in delivering this project. We are ensuring the health and safety of all people involved with the scheme follow our strict social distancing procedures, as we support the Government Covid-19 guidance.”

The works starting next week will develop the highway to provide dedicated access to the site from Long Road. Lane closures and traffic management will be in place for 17 weeks to enable this.

The development is funded by £2.04M of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership’s Unlocking Growth Funding and an £8M investment in the site by us.
