The event is mainly aimed at care experienced young people but is open to all and there will be a range of stallholders with information and support including ABL Health, Eat That Frog, South Devon College, Torbay Council’s Participation Team, Enabling service, Wellbeing team and Fostering service, Play Torbay, and there will be a Black History Month stand at the event run by Kierrah from our Care Experienced team showcasing interesting facts and a chance to test your knowledge of Black History.
Other stallholders will include Taleblazers, Eddystone, Crealy, Guide Dogs, and local NHS representatives. More stallholders are also still to be confirmed.
Care experienced young people attending the event will also offered free comfort cases and bags.
National Care Leavers Week - led by national charity Become - is an annual opportunity to celebrate Care Leavers and amplify their voices and the Council is working with a range of local partners to support the week.
Councillor Nick Bye, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services for Torbay said: “Care Leavers Week is a really important opportunity to highlight our local Care Experienced young people and we want to celebrate them but also make sure everyone is aware of the support that is available to our Care Experienced young people, both from Torbay Council and from other local organisations.
“The Wellbeing Day will be a chance for Care Experienced young people to find information about health and wellbeing services, education, employment and apprenticeship opportunities, community groups and more. So please do visit the event if you get the opportunity.”
This will be a drop-in event so no need to book, but if you need any more information please contact Contact4Careleavers@torbay.gov.uk
Other events which are just for care experienced young people include a quiz, silent disco and five aside football. There will also be a photo competition with photos taken by care experienced young people which will be displayed during Care Leavers Week at Brixham Library, Paignton Library and Torre Abbey.
Care experienced young people will also be contacted directly about a range of other events and activities taking place in Care Leavers Week, however, if you are care experienced and have not received the information please email Contact4Careleavers@torbay.gov.uk
If you are interested in having a stand at this event, contact annette.solomon@torbay.gov.uk or call 01803 207849.
