New business units at Lymington Road coach station are taking shape with the construction of the building superstructure now well underway.
Classic Builders who were appointed to build the new business facilities, has nearly completed installing the main steel frame of the building structure ready for the next stage of construction to take place.
Since construction work began in March this year, Classic Builders has started to significantly change the space after the demolition of the old buildings and initial ground works were completed at the end of 2022.
Piling, substructure blockwork, pre-cast concrete floors and associated drainage works have also been completed in recent weeks.
Funded from our Growth Fund, alongside funding awarded by the Heart of the South West LEP’s Getting Building Fund, the development will provide space for small businesses, with improvements also being made to the public space.
Now that the structure of the building is in place, Classic Builders will begin the construction of the external envelope of the building, including the external walls, roof, and mezzanine floors. Associated drainage, external works and car park configuration works will also start in the coming weeks.
Members of the Cabinet visited the site to see the progress for themselves and to learn more about the development.
The project which is being managed by TDA is part of wider plans to generate new business and employment opportunities and improve transport infrastructure in Torbay.
The development which is due for completion in early 2024 will see modern business facilities and a range of new amenities, including a new international coach bay, shelter providing weather protection for waiting passengers, wayfaring information, a new and improved disabled toilet, and enhanced lighting throughout the car park.
Cllr Chris Lewis, Cabinet Member for Place Services and Economic Growth at Torbay Council, said; “It was great to visit the site and see the progress being made on the new facilities that will hugely benefit small local businesses as well as the local community. Lymington Road coach station is the first place many visitors to Torbay see so it’s important the area is welcoming and provides a quality travel experience. I look forward to watching the site develop further over the coming months.”
Karl Tucker, Chair of the Heart of the South West LEP, said; “Sites such as Lymington Road are ideal to support both new and established small businesses. Through this project, we are delighted to be able to make a difference to local business growth and employment opportunities in Torbay.”
Five business units will be available for long-term rent with information due to be available on Rightmove soon. Interested businesses can register their interest in the units by contacting vicki.philpot@tda.uk.net
