On Thursday 13 April 2023, electors in Brixham will be able to have their say in a Parish Poll.

Triggered by a request from 11 electors, it will be staged like a usual election using the regular polling stations.

It will be overseen by Anne-Marie Bond, Returning Officer for Torbay Council, with the poll asking local electors to respond to two questions which were agreed at the Brixham Parish Meeting on 13 March 2023.

They are:

  1. Do you wish to leave the jurisdiction of Torbay Council?
  2. Do you wish Brixham to join the South Hams District?

Anne-Marie Bond said: “Following notification of the outcome of the Brixham Parish meeting held on 13 March 2023 and having been satisfied that the Parish Poll has been correctly called, arrangements are now being made to hold the poll on Thursday 13 April 2023.

“However, unlike a usual election, there are no poll cards, nor any postal votes. Further, the result of the poll is not binding, it is purely an expression of views. The cost of running the poll will be met by Brixham residents through Brixham Town Council, which is anticipated to cost approximately £10,000-£15,000.”

Voter ID will not be needed for this election.

Polling stations will be open from 4pm to 9pm at the following locations:

  • Higher Brixham Community Centre
  • Central Garage Showroom
  • Scala Hall
  • Brixham Cricket Club
  • Brixham Bowling Club
  • St Mary’s Park Bowling Club
  • Brixham Rugby Club
