Music on the Meadows, a free day and evening festival comes to Torre Abbey Meadows for one-day only on Friday 3 June.
Expect an amazing day and evening of entertainment for all the family, celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in what promises to be the biggest free party on Torre Abbey Meadows in Torquay in decades.
The family-friendly festival will take place in addition to a range of exciting local events planned to celebrate the 70-year reign of her Majesty The Queen over the extended June bank holiday weekend.
Organised by Torbay Council, with support from the English Riviera BID Company, the event promises to be an amazing day that can be enjoyed by all.
The event will be headlined by acclaimed Beatles tribute band, The Bootleg Beatles, who have performed at notable venues such as The Cavern, Buckingham Palace, the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury Festival.
The festivities will run from 11am till 10.30pm and will feature music throughout the decades of Her Majesty The Queen’s reign, featuring live music from; South Devon Rock Choir, Funk City Band, John Matthew and Happy Days with their spectacular Platinum Jubilee Show. There will also be DJ sets from the McGowan Family and Chris Macmeikan MBE to get the party started.
To get into the Platinum Jubilee spirit, festival goers will also be given free (sustainable) union jack flags to wave, bringing a touch of the Last Night of the Proms to Torre Abbey Meadows.
Councillor Swithin Long, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing said: “Music on the Meadows looks set to be one of the highlights of a packed programme of events over the extended bank holiday weekend. Open to Torbay residents and visitors, everyone is invited to join us for what promises to be a memorable celebration. So, get ready to pack your picnics, grab your blankets and wave those flags.”
Councillor Nicole Amil, Chair of the Airshow Working Party and Member Champion, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee said: “We have pulled out all the stops to make this a fitting tribute to a remarkable monarch. We know how special Her Majesty The Queen is to the people of Torbay and Music on the Meadows means that everyone can celebrate together and make fantastic memories of this special weekend. Do come out and join us for the party of the year, when we toast the remarkable 70-year reign of Her Majesty the Queen.”
Ahead of the evening’s musical festivities, the daytime activities are the perfect free, family fun day out. Activities include:
- Children’s Tent, with fun family entertainment from the team behind Children’s Week
- Theatrical entertainment from Doorsteps Arts
- Family-friendly circus show, which promises to get very messy, “Do What Your Mama Told Yah”
- Traditional games run by local Scouts groups including a Crockery Smash and Splat the Rat
