RingGo, the UK’s leading phone parking provider, is taking over cashless parking in car parks and for on-street parking spaces operated by us from 30 September 2020.
Like Parkmobile, the existing provider, RingGo lets users pay for parking using their mobile phone, rather than having to touch a shared machine whilst paying by cash or card.
In car parks and on street parking in Torbay, the RingGo Start:Stop solution is being offered, so motorists can pay only for the time they are parked, by starting and stopping their parking in the same way they used to with Parkmobile. This differs from elsewhere across Devon, where the standard RingGo 'Buy Time' parking is in operation.
We recommend motorists use RingGo as the quickest and safest way to pay. To encourage users to do so, the cost of using RingGo is equal to paying by cash or card.
RingGo offers motorists a choice of ways to pay: the most popular is via the RingGo app, which can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store or Google Play Store. Users that don’t have a smartphone can book their parking by calling, sending a text message, or paying online.
Any existing Parkmobile user that has not previously used RingGo should download the RingGo app and complete their registration online at RingGo.co.uk, to ensure they can park quickly and easily whenever they need to. Anyone who would like to try cashless parking for the first time can do the same.
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “We are extremely pleased to be moving towards a single cashless parking app across the whole of Devon.”
“Torbay is now offering RingGo for all parking, although the service differs slightly from how it is offered across the rest of Devon. In Torbay, motorists use the app or phone to start and stop their parking. Elsewhere they “buy time” in advance.
“The two services are clearly differentiated by the signage. RingGo Start:Stop signs are coloured green and red, reflecting the start stop nature of the parking; whereas the RingGo buy time signs are green and blue. In either case, the app offers the correct solution depending on the five digit zone number which is entered.”
Peter O’Driscoll, Managing Director for RingGo says “We are extremely pleased to be offering RingGo across another Devon Council as part of our countywide expansion of the service. Usage has increased tremendously over recent months as people have sought an alternative to touching shared buttons on machines.
“Across Devon especially, there has been a massive shift in payments, and offering a single app for payment, countywide, with no differential between cash and cashless, only helps this process further.
