As we move towards further changes to the COVID-19 lockdown measures, from Saturday 4 July Torbay couples will once again be able to say their ‘I will’s’ as the Registrar Service resume conducting marriage and civil partnership ceremonies.

From Saturday, Torbay’s Register Office, located at Cockington Court will be able to host marriage and civil partnership ceremonies, albeit on a smaller scale. The Ceremony Room will run at a reduced capacity of just eight guests (including the couple), and the Register Office will have a maximum capacity of four people (including the couple).

Any couple on the Registrars waiting list will be contacted directly by the Ceremonies Team for their existing booking to be rearranged.

Couples who have a ceremony booked from 4 July in either the Ceremony Room or Register Office, will also be contacted directly to discuss their individual ceremony details.

Cllr Christine Carter, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Community Services, Torbay Council, said, “Although we are having to offer ceremonies at a reduced capacity, the recommencement of ceremonies is the great news that many of our local couples have been waiting for. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all couples who are rebooking their ceremonies my congratulations as they take the next step in their lives together”.

Any couples who have ceremonies booked in the Cary Room or Hayloft at Cockington Court will need to make contact with the venues via info@cockingtoncourt.org

Couples due to have their ceremony at any of Torbay’s approved premises are asked to liaise directly with their chosen venue. Before any ceremonies can recommence at these venues, we will need to be sure that appropriate risk assessments have been carried out.

Citizenship ceremonies will recommence from Monday 20 July, individuals who are on the waiting list will be contacted to discuss the rescheduling of their ceremony.
