A virtual workshop is being run by the online platform Crowdfund on how to raise funds using the power of crowdfunding.

The online workshop will be taking place on Thursday 28 May 2020 starting at 12 noon and will last for 30 minutes.

There has already been a lot of interest from the community in using this as a way of raising money and in February we joined the Crowdfund platform and have made available £10,000 that they will use to pledge towards local community projects.

The types of projects the council is looking to fund are those that not only makes a positive impact in the community across Torbay but supports wellbeing, works towards a better environment, rewards innovation or can improve resident’s lives.

Leader of Torbay Council, Councillor Steve Darling, said: “Just before lockdown started we had planned to run a how to crowdfund workshop at Paignton Library but this, unfortunately, was not able to happen. This virtual workshop is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to find out more information on how to best use the Crowdfund platform as well as how to raise funds that will improve our local communities’ lives.

“Crowdfunding allows community groups and projects to easily set-up an online project where they can coordinate their fundraising in one place. Crowdfunding is also a great way to make projects accessible to more people, trusts and corporate bodies that are looking to invest in community projects.”

Crowdfund Torbay will support community groups, social enterprises, charities and individuals across the bay to raise money from the crowd and unlock extra funding from other organisations.
