Our gardeners (TOR2), have recently completed the planting of annual flower seeds in some of the flower beds around Torbay.

Particularly noticeable are the flower beds in the Italian Gardens on Torquay seafront, although they may appear just to have bare soil, the seeds are in fact awaiting germination.

 In just a few short weeks the seeds will bloom into an array of bright colours from 14 different species including; calendula officinalis (marigolds), papaver rhoeas (poppy) and centaurea cyanus (cornflower).

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Culture for Torbay Council, said “During the germination period, we would like to ask that the public are considerate to the hard work carried out by the gardeners, and to stay off the planted beds. Whilst they look empty, there is lots going on under the soil and therefore they should not be walked or cycled across.”

Whilst our gardeners are out and about working across Torbay, we would like to reassure members of the community that this is being undertaken in accordance with the current social distancing guidelines as set out by the government.
