We are celebrating the role of social workers this World Social Work Day (Tuesday 17 March 2020) and is encouraging people to come and work for us.
World Social Work Day is a global event to highlight the essential work social workers do and this year, the theme is ‘Promoting the Importance of Human Relationships’.
Our Children’s Services department is currently recruiting to a number of children’s social care roles, from frontline social workers to team managers and roles with the Fostering and MASH teams.
We also recently signed up to the Local Government Association’s Return to Social Work Practice scheme which aims to attract former social workers back into the profession with training and support. Other developments include transferring Youth Services and the Young Carers Service to the Youth Trust, and plans for a new Torbay Learning Academy.
Councillor Cordelia Law, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “We are pleased to celebrate World Social Work Day and all the fantastic work that is done locally, nationally and around the world. The Council was praised on a recent Ofsted monitoring visit for its “accelerated pace of change” to improving its children’s services, good staff morale and a senior leadership team who are accessible and visible. They also recognised our ambition to create a culture of high expectation and an environment that understands the child’s world. So if you’re interested in working for our Children’s Services, please do get in touch.”
Nancy Meehan said: “This is a really exciting time for Torbay’s Children’s Services and we are growing the team here to meet the challenge - we would also love to hear from you if you are interested in joining the team here.
“Maybe you work in child social care somewhere else in the UK and are thinking of relocating to the English Riviera? Or perhaps you are a former social worker who is thinking of returning to practice, we would also love to hear from you as we have recently joined the Local Government Association’s Return To Social Work Practice scheme.
“I was recently appointed the new Director of Children’s Services, and we have ambitious plans to recruit more permanent social workers to improve capacity and reduce caseloads within the service. We also have a project in place to enhance our support for foster carers – and recruit more of them. We are making changes to our Youth Services including transferring the service and Young Carers to a charitable Youth Trust.”
