Great Western Railway (GWR) has announced it will be contributing £7,823 from its Customer and Communities improvement Fund (CCIF), fund matched by us to the sum of £13,457, towards pedestrian improvements at Torre Station in Torquay.

Torre Station is one of only nine community projects in Devon to receive funding and the contribution from GWR is being matched by Section 106 funding from Torbay Council, which aims to improve sustainable transport facilities in the area.

The funding will be used to improve the station entrance, with an improved pedestrian walkway and replacement signage.

Kevin Mowat, our Interim Director of Place, said: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with GWR to deliver these improvements to Torre Station. Securing CCIF funding will help make a positive journey experience for everyone using the station.”

GWR Managing Director Mark Hopwood said: “We at GWR recognise only too well the vital role that rail plays in local and the national economy, and I am delighted that we have been able to continue to support the communities we serve with this funding.”

Supported by the Department for Transport, the CCIF was established to recognise and back projects identified by communities where GWR operates, with projects requiring local match funding.
