Torbay Lottery Small Grants Fund is now open for applications. People who have supported the central Torbay Lottery have raised around £8,000 to date and the council is now inviting local charity, voluntary and community sector organisations to apply for a bid towards the costs of a specific activity or for the purchase of small items of equipment up to £2,000.
Torbay’s elected Mayor, Gordon Oliver, said: “The Torbay Lottery already has 105 local good causes signed up who are benefiting from the initiative, with the most popular being on target to receive over £1,000 over the year. We would now like to encourage them and other local good causes to apply for the Torbay Lottery Small Grant Fund for up to £2,000 one off funding.”
Applicants may apply between 15 January and 2 March 2018 and the panel will meet on 12 March 2018 to determine who will benefit from this grant, with successful applicants being notified within six weeks of the closing date for applications.
You do not need to be a current Torbay Lottery good cause to apply, but must meet the requirements set out in the policy. Here is an extract:
‘Funding will only be provided where it can be demonstrated that a defined impact will be made that support the ambitions and targeted actions of the Corporate Plan. Organisations should demonstrate an outcomes focus in applications for funding. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how the funding will achieve support for projects run by charities, voluntary groups and clubs and organisations.
Torbay Council residents will be the main recipients of the funding. The council will require that all funding awards support the ambitions and targeted actions of the Corporate Plan, namely:
Ambitions:
- a prosperous Torbay
- a healthy Torbay
Targeted actions:
- protecting all children and giving them the best start in life
- working towards a more prosperous Torbay
- promoting healthy lifestyles across Torbay
- ensuring Torbay remains an attractive and safe place to live and visit
- protecting and supporting vulnerable adults’

The Torbay Lottery has been running since April 2017 and supporters can choose which of the 105 local charities or good causes currently signed up they would like to benefit. 60p from every £1 ticket goes directly to supporting local causes with 20p going into the prize pot. The biggest cash prize won to date is £2,000 which was won in August.
