Armed Forces Covenant

Find out about our promise of support to local servicemen and women, veterans and their families.

Armed Forces Covenant

In March 2023 Torbay Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant.  The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

The Armed Forces Covenant Duty places a legal obligation on certain public bodies to pay due regard to the Covenant principles when exercising certain functions.  The principles and our commitment to uphold them is set out in our signed Armed Forces Covenant

Torbay Council is also part of the Devon Armed Forces Community Wellbeing Partnership.  The Partnership includes a wide range of organisations that collaborate to meet the aims of the Covenant across Devon.

We are Bronze Award holders under the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme.

If you are a member of the Armed Forces Community and would like to find out more about how the Covenant can help you, or are interested in how you can get involved, go to the national Armed Forces Covenant website.

This short Armed Forces Covenant e-learning programme helps identify which groups make up the Armed Forces Community and what the Armed Forces Covenant and Covenant Duty are.

Our Armed Forces Champion is Cllr Hayley Tranter who is committed to supporting the Armed Forces Community in Torbay and to promoting the commitments of the Covenant.  If you would like to contact Cllr Tranter or make an enquiry about the Armed Forces Covenant in Torbay, please email ArmedForcesCovenant@torbay.gov.uk
