Support and help

Find out more about the help available to applicants of the Local Heritage Grant scheme.

The following are suggestions. You should not feel restricted or limited by these supporting documents. We have added them to provide inspiration.

You can use the Torbay Heritage Strategy and heritage interpretation framework  as a structure for content. They both use the 8 publicly chosen themes as a structure for telling our heritage stories:

  • Geology
  • Early humans
  • Monastic and mediaeval
  • Agricultural life
  • Napoleonic
  • Trawling
  • Golden age of the resorts
  • Agatha Christie and Writers on the Riviera

The English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark (ERUGGp) Mission Statement may also be helpful. It could be useful when thinking of projects to inspire or engage people.

The English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark is one of Earth's extraordinary places. It covers the whole of Torbay, which comprises Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham. The Geopark celebrates, conserves, enhances and protects the unique and diverse cultural heritage of this naturally inspiring area of South Devon. It works with partners to promote education, expand tourism, and support sustainable social and economic development.

The Geopark aims to reconnect human society at all levels to:

  • The local area

  • The wider environment

  • Celebrate how Torbay’s 400-million-year long history has shaped every aspect of our lives, our societies and informs the future.

It is mindful of the climate and ecological emergencies. It raises awareness and enriches lives. It supports the development and well-being of the local community. It leads by example and encourages everyone to protect the environment.

Advisor support

A Heritage Grants Advisor is in place to offer pre-application advice. Once grants are awarded, they will act as an informal advisor/critical friend if needed.

To contact the advisor, you can email us.

Please allow 3-working days for a response.

Before you complete your application, we recommend you discuss your project ideas with our Heritage Advisor. Previous applicants have said that she offers valuable guidance.

Evaluation contractors will evaluate the programme as a whole. They will ask applicants for information. This means the experience can be shared, and people can learn from each other.
