Process and decision making

Find out more about the application process and how we award funding

An important part of the scheme is to ensure decisions are made in Torbay. To do this we have set up a Heritage Grants Decision Panel. The panel is made up of:

  • Two young people. Johanna Morrell, Partnerships Manager for Imagine This, Torbay Communities will provide support.
  • Steven Chown. Community Grants Advisor, Torbay Communities.
  • Dr Kevin Dixon. Local historian, member of the advisory board of Torbay Culture and Chair of Healthwatch Torbay.
  • Lucinda Heron. Torre Abbey Manager and member of the Geopark Management Group.
  • Cllr Jackie Thomas. Cabinet Member for Tourism, Culture & Events and Corporate Services.

An appropriate officer working in culture/heritage at Torbay Council will convene the panel.

The process

  • Applications received will be checked for eligibility. It will then go to the panel for review and scoring. Please ensure you plan for a 6 month turnaround on your project in 2025.
  • Panel will meet to discuss applications and review scores. They will make recommendations for funding.
  • Where applications are not successful, we will give feedback. If appropriate, applicants will be encouraged to apply in a future round. Or, they will be signposted to other grant schemes if applicable.
  • We will let those with successful grant applications know. They will get the go ahead to start their project.
  • Successful grant applications will get advice and support from the Heritage Grant Advisor. We will ask them to participate in the evaluation conducted by the Evaluators.

Please contact the Heritage Advisor via our team with questions about your application or project suitability.
