Vary an HMO license

Find out how to make a change to a licence for a house in multiple occupation (HMO).

You need to apply for a variation to your HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) license, in several situations, including:

  • If the current owner or manager changes their name or address.
  • If you want to increase the maximum number of occupants.
  • If there are substantial changes to the property layout or accommodation.
  • If there is a change in the management arrangements.
  • We may also vary a license if there has been a change in circumstances, such as discovering new information or changes in the standards required for the property.

If you would like to vary your licence, please email the housing team and we will send you the appropriate forms depending on how you wish to vary your licence.
