Advice for Swimming Pool Operators

If you are an establishment offering swimming we would like to make you aware of 2 concerns;

  • Affected pool water
  • Cross infection from bathers

In relation to pools that might contain Cryptosporidium - there is no way of testing the pool water for the parasite. The pool water should be treated in line with the guidelines by the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group. An advice sheet is attached.

To reduce the risk of cross infection, please advise your customers of the following;

Bathers:

  • With infections should not use the pool
  • With diarrhoea who have been diagnosed with or thought to have had cryptosporidiosis must not swim for 14 days after diarrhoea has stopped.
