Highways Design Guide for New Developments

We have produced this design guide to aid developers, designers and other professionals, and to consider how their proposals will affect the highways and transportation infrastructure. It explains the design philosophies, criteria, and requirements, and sets out the procedures for planning applications and processes to adopt the infrastructure.

It also sets out the requirements for compliance with Legislation, Health and Safety, Environmental and Public Protection.

This policy will be the basis for technical approval for adopting and improving new and existing roads as part of new developments. A Standing Advice document has also been produced to assist applicants in preparing their applications and for officers to consider those minor planning applications that may affect the public highway.
