Inclusion Partnership

Torbay Inclusion Partnership – funded engagement opportunity

We are committed to inclusion and to ensuring it is at the heart of everything we do and to meeting our duties under the Equality Act. We are currently working to embed inclusion across the Council and are keen to take the next steps to ensure that our approach to inclusion is robust and is informed by the voice of our local communities.  

The Inclusion Partnership aims to support the Council’s inclusion work by providing advice, feedback and challenge. It is key to supporting the Council to build effective relationships with historically under-served communities, supporting the Council to listen to their views and use any insights shared to shape the Council’s approach to inclusion and its wider service and policies.  

Membership 

Membership of the Partnership will be made of up of “subject matter experts” in their respective area, drawn from local organisations ’ , and who are passionate about enacting positive change and challenging discrimination. 

Members will act as a critical friend to the council providing constructive challenge and feedback on proposed initiatives including equality impact assessments, draft policies and proposed service changes.  

A formal contract will be in place which all members are expected to work in accordance with. The initial term of the contract will be in place for one year with the option to extend the arrangement for up to two further years in increments of 12 months. 

We are seeking representatives with experience of working with the following communities within Torbay: 

  • Carers  
  • Gender equality  
  • LGBT+  
  • Neurodiverse
  • Older people  
  • People with disability  
  • People from minoritised ethnic backgrounds
  • People of different faiths and beliefs
  • Trade Union  
  • Young people  (including those with care experience) 

Members of the group also need: 

  • An awareness and understanding of the Equality Act and the Human Rights Act  
  • A commitment to anti-racist and anti-discriminatory practice  
  • Well established connections to the community(s) you seek to represent  
  • A deep understanding of the challenges and barriers of the community(s) you seek to represent 
  • A commitment to trauma informed practice and relational and collaborative working  
  • In addition, the following skills and knowledge are required;  
  • Experience reading, contributing and critiquing written documents including sometimes complex policy documents 
  • Experience of  equality impact assessments  
  • An understanding of how organisations and services  reinforce inequality  
  • Experience and or understanding of local government and how it makes  decisions  

Financial information

Members will be required attend meetings throughout the year which is currently expected to be 20 hours per year. Members will receive a payment of £55 per hour which includes time spent at the meeting and an agreed amount of preparation ahead of the meeting.

Responses will be assessed by the extent to which the requirements are met.

Torbay Council intends to inform Applicants on the outcome of their application by Monday 24 March 2025.
