Support

All types of discretionary assistance offered through this policy will be managed by our DFG service.

For mandatory disabled facilities grants, three options are available to you regarding how an application can be supported and made.

Option 1 - Managed application process

Our DFG support service will manage the application and work on your behalf. This is the easiest and least stressful option for you, particularly for more extensive adaptations. We will:

• assess the applicant’s financial circumstances by a statutory means test which will identify any contribution to be paid towards the cost of the works
• arrange for a technical officer to visit to discuss how the adaptations can be provided in the home and what building works or alterations are needed
• draw up a schedule of works and plans (and planning permission or building regulations approval if required)
• help you complete the formal disabled facilities grant application forms
• find a contractor to undertake the work for you
• supervise the contractor on site
• deal with any unforeseen works and interim payments
• arrange final payment to the contractor
• collect any certificates, and guarantees from the contractor

We will include the relevant fee* in the eligible costs to support your application.

Option 2 - Customer contractor process

This option is where you want to use our disabled facilities grant support service to prepare the DFG application but want to choose the contractor to carry out the work.

We will give you an information pack if you would like to take this option. It will include details of the role that the DFG support service will have and the responsibilities regarding the work which will transfer to you after the application.

We will include the relevant fee* in the eligible costs to support your application.

Option 3 - Customer managed process

This option is where you want to manage the application and process yourself. You can use your architect or draftsperson and contractors to plan, develop or build a preferred scheme.

We will give you an information pack if you would like to take this option. It tells you what you need to do to make a DFG application and the requirements to get DFG funding.

*This fee is amended annually.
