Reminders and final notices

Information about when we issue reminders and final notices

If you are having difficulty paying, you can change the way you pay your bill or the date you make payments. Avoiding getting a reminder could be that simple!

Change how and when you pay

Resolving any issues you have before you get to the summons stage is quicker and cheaper. If you get a summons and go to court, they have no power to alter the amount you owe or make a payment arrangement.

Reminders

We will send you a reminder if by the instalment due date:

  • you have not paid anything, or
  • you have not paid the full amount

First reminder

We will send you a first reminder the first time you miss a payment. If you make the payment by the date on the reminder you can keep paying in instalments. If you don't make this payment, you will lose your right to pay in instalments. We will then send you a final notice. You will then have to pay the full balance within seven days.

You do have seven days to pay a reminder, but you also must pay any instalment that falls within this period as well. If you do not bring the account up to date in full within the seven days, you will receive a final notice.

If you bring the account up to date but are late with another instalment we will send you a second reminder. We will not send any further reminders.

Second reminder

If you bring your account up to date after a first reminder but then miss another payment within the same billing year we will send you a second reminder.  If you make the payment by the date on the second reminder you can keep paying in instalments.

We will not send any further reminders. Any more missed payments will mean you lose your right to pay in instalments. You will get a final notice and must pay the full balance within seven days.

Final notice

We will send you a final notice if you don't pay the outstanding amount on a reminder. We can issue a summons at this point. If you get a final notice, it means you have lost your right to pay in instalments. You need to pay the total amount outstanding within seven days.
