Wraparound childcare for providers

Find out more about the government's launch of a national wraparound programme.

Wraparound childcare provides care for children before and after school hours

In Spring 2023, the government announced a national wraparound programme. The aim is to support all working families to access wraparound childcare from 8am to 6pm, in their local area or on their school site.

All parents in England with primary school aged children are eligible to access wraparound childcare.

Wraparound childcare is childcare that ‘wraps around’ the conventional school day. It is:

  • For primary-aged school children
  • Weekdays from 8am to 6pm, during term-time only
  • Provided by your local school or a childcare provider (this includes private settings and childminders)

Grant Funding for Providers

Wraparound Programme grant funding is available for providers to develop or expand Before and After school places throughout Torbay. The funding will be delivered based on the aims of the National Wraparound Programme and guidance from the Department for Education. Wraparound childcare: guidance for schools and trusts in England (publishing.service.gov.uk)

The government has provided Torbay Council with start-up funding. This will support childcare providers and schools in Torbay to develop or expand wraparound childcare provision to meet parental demand. Schools and childcare providers must be Ofsted registered to receive funding.
