Home learning environment and early years

The home learning environment and early years team offer advice for professionals and parents in finding and funding childcare.

The team 

We offer support to settings with children aged from birth to five years. The setting may be a nursery, pre-school, childminder or school-based nursery. 

We aim to improve outcomes for all children under five. We do this by focussing on the following priorities: 

  • Communication and language 
  • Reduction in equality gap for targeted children 
  • Ensure sufficiency 
  • Workforce development 

Who is in the team: 

  • Home Learning Environment and Early Years Team Lead 
  • Early Years Advisory Teacher for Inclusion 
  • Early Years Advisory Teacher 
  • Early Language Consultant 
  • Early Years Development workers 
  • Portage Home Visiting workers 
  • Home Learning Environment Outreach worker 
  • Early Years Finance and Business officer 
  • Business support officer

As well as all the information you can find below, we offer: 

  • Advisory visits to settings that wish to create or extend their provision. 
  • Advisory support to individual settings with children under five. 
  • Support and advice to settings for children with additional needs. We do this either through a virtual consultation or a visit. 
  • Home learning environment outreach support. We visit the homes of families whose children are under five 
  • Extra support to settings for children experiencing a high level of need. We receive funding to do this. It is called Activity Led Funding for Inclusion. (ALFI)
