Local Councils have a duty to measure certain types of air pollution and to report on their measurements every year. The latest report for Torbay is available below. The report has been checked and accepted by DEFRA (the Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).
The report also explains what actions the Council has taken to improve air quality in the last year.
Two areas in Torbay had previously been found to have levels of pollution which were above the legal limits. These were Hele Road in Torquay and New Road in Brixham. In both cases the pollution was mainly caused by emissions from traffic.
The work by Torbay Council to improve the situation in both areas has been successful in bringing pollution levels back down below the legal limit. No areas within the district are now above the levels set by Government.
