The Board received a presentation from the Assistant Director of Education, Learning and Skills on the above theme contained in the Marmot report.  The Board reviewed Marmot’s Policy recommendations and the actions the Council is already promoting and undertaking.  The Board discussed influencing breast feeding and the barriers families can face to be unable to continue doing so for a longer period of time.  The Board also reviewed community and the support services from Health Visitors etc.  It was noted that quality work was already been undertaken with partners as a result of traumatic events.

Chairperson to sum up, identify next steps and the Board to form a recommendation on this theme.

Resolved:

The Board recommended the following are included in their final report:

(i)        Torbay Promise and ensure it is embedded in the budget setting process;

(ii)       further integration of early help and 0–19 services;

(iii)      promote the Home Learning Campaign – Chat Play Read;

(iv)      ‘Imagine This’ partnership and the capacity to deliver additional family support services; and

(v)       Trauma Informed Developmental Approach.
