Decision details

To amend the Resource and Waste Management Strategy 2020 – 2023 to remove the reference to undertaking a trial of a reduction in the frequency of residual waste collections.

Decision Maker: Director of Place

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The Resource and Waste Management Strategy 2020 – 2023 was approved by Council in February 2021 and it included a reference to undertaking a trial of a reduction in the frequency of residual waste collections. Although in the Strategy, this aim was not included within the associated Action Plan.

The Council and SWISCo are working hard to increase recycling rates, and thereby reducing the amount of residual waste that households generate. However, the ongoing inclusion of the potential for this trial could cause a distraction from the important work to improve the levels of household recycling in the Bay.

As the Resource and Waste Management Strategy forms part of the Council’s Policy Framework, there is a requirement to undertake consultation on any changes.
