1. Key purpose of job
- Will design, develop and implement Microsoft Power BI solutions (following appropriate training and support) to provide strategic, financial, and business information at all levels within the organisation to support informed decision making.
- Will support effective business change by building relationships with senior strategists, planners and operational business partners.
2. Anticipated outcomes of post
- Service areas will benefit from the use of efficient, effective, accurate and secure Microsoft Power BI solutions.
- Power BI Reports/Dashboards provided to departments and individuals, enabling them to effectively discharge their duties and ensure that the organisation can deliver services to the public and achieve its strategic goals, visions, and corporate plan.
3. List key duties and accountabilities of the post
- The postholder will be expected to develop their existing knowledge of Business intelligence whilst in this role, especially Microsoft Power BI.
- Converts existing report formats (e.g. Crystal Reports, Cognos, Logi, etc) to Microsoft Power BI.
- Develops the additional Power BI Reports/Dashboards required for the ongoing rollout of the CRM and related projects.
- Develops Power BI Reports/Dashboards for service areas following Service Reviews and Performance monitoring.
- Liaises with service users at all levels regarding requirement gathering for new Microsoft Power BI solutions.
- Adheres to configuration management, change management and release management procedures and controls.
- Communicates effectively with users/clients by telephone, MS Teams and email, assists in the provision of advice and guidance on matters relating to the provision of BI solutions, including the support of live reports and dashboards (following training).
- Carries out duties in accordance with the Council’s Information Security Standards and Human Resource Policies; compliance with the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and any other relevant legislation that directly affects service delivery.
- Ensures that data is kept secure, accessible and that the principles of GDPR are always adhered to.
- Uses available resources to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of any relevant IT or BI fields, including emerging technologies.

- The Council operates a Smoke-Free Policy and the post-holder is prohibited from smoking in any of the Council's buildings (including Council owned and Council leased buildings, but excluding designated areas in residential schemes), enclosed spaces within the curtilage of buildings, and Council vehicles. The Council does not permit smoking breaks within work time, however, in services where the flexi-scheme is in operation, employees may take reasonable break times outside of core hours, in accordance with flexi-time arrangements. Employees should follow the flexi-scheme procedure for agreeing time away from their duties in the normal manner with their immediate colleagues and line manager, with break start and finish times being recorded, as with any other break-time arrangement.
- The post-holder is expected to familiarise themselves with and adhere to all relevant Council Policies and Procedures.
- The post-holder must comply with the Council’s Health and Safety requirements as outlined in the H&S policy appropriate to the role.
- The post is eligible for both hybrid and permanent home working.
