1. Key purpose of job
- Developing, implementing and providing on-going support for integrations/interfaces to key line of business applications, in order to meet the business needs of the organisation.
- To assist in the implementation of line of business applications and have a key role regarding integration.
- To further enhance the department’s capacity and capabilities.
2. Anticipated outcomes of post
- Key line of business applications are supported by a subject matter expert regarding integration.
- Bugs/issues regarding system integration are resolved within agreed SLAs.
- Secure and efficient Integrations/interfaces are developed using languages/technologies appropriate for each line of business application.
- Positive contribution to the overall development and improvement of Torbay Council services for the benefit of its residents.
- Positive contribution to the overall management, development, and improvement of the IT Business Unit.
3. List key duties and accountabilities of the post
- The postholder will be expected to develop their existing knowledge whilst in this role (there is an expectation that this role will be part of a career pathway) – gaining knowledge about various languages and tools, some of which are in common use and others bespoke to individual business applications. Mentoring by senior team members and training will be provided.
- It is expected that the postholder will gain detailed knowledge of a number of key business applications and will provide support regarding integration. For these systems they will develop new integrations (transferring data to and/or from other systems, via APIs, scripts and programming languages) and resolve any issues with existing integrations, unassisted as far as possible.
- They will adhere to configuration management, change management and release management procedures, policies and controls.
- They will receive and handle requests for support, adhering to agreed procedures and responses to those requests, maintaining records of actions taken and will also ensure that documentation regarding integration is kept up to date.
- They will act as a routine contact point between the organisation and suppliers regarding integration.
- They will communicate effectively with users/clients at all levels, by telephone, MS Teams, email and face-to-face contact, regarding requirements for new integration work and the provision of advice, guidance and support on matters relating to application integration.
- They will carry out duties in accordance with the Council’s Information Security Standards and Human Resource Policies; compliance with the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and any other relevant legislation that directly affects service delivery.
- They will ensure that data is kept secure and that the principles of GDPR are always adhered to.
- They will use available resources to gain an up-to-date knowledge of any relevant IT field and monitors the market to gain knowledge and understanding of currently emerging technologies.

- The Council operates a Smoke-Free Policy and the post-holder is prohibited from smoking in any of the Council's buildings (including Council owned and Council leased buildings, but excluding designated areas in residential schemes), enclosed spaces within the curtilage of buildings, and Council vehicles. The Council does not permit smoking breaks within work time, however, in services where the flexi-scheme is in operation, employees may take reasonable break times outside of core hours, in accordance with flexi-time arrangements. Employees should follow the flexi-scheme procedure for agreeing time away from their duties in the normal manner with their immediate colleagues and line manager, with break start and finish times being recorded, as with any other break-time arrangement.
- The post-holder is expected to familiarise themselves with and adhere to all relevant Council Policies and Procedures.
- The post-holder must comply with the Council’s Health and Safety requirements as outlined in the H&S policy appropriate to the role.
- The post is eligible for permanent office, hybrid and permanent home working, although the majority of the Software Development Unit work permanently from home.
- The post-holder must be committed to the Council’s Core Values for employees – “Torbay Council employees are committed to being forward thinking, people orientated and adaptable - always with integrity”. Evidence will be sought during the probation and appraisal processes.
- If you are required to use your own vehicle on Council business or drive a council vehicle you will be asked to provide information on any driving endorsements by accessing gov.uk/view-driving-licence and providing a code to your Line Manager in order to share your driving licence information with the Council.
- You will be asked to complete a Criminal Records Self Declaration Form. Criminal convictions will only be taken into account when they are relevant to the post. You will only be asked to disclose ‘unspent’ convictions.
