1. Key purpose of job
- Support delivery of high-quality seasonal Food and Beverage offers in line with the Spirit of Place and consistently exceeds customer expectations. Leading by example when it comes to maximising income and profitability.
- To effectively support the day-to-day operation of Torre Abbey Cafe to achieve stretching sales targets and controlling costs and stock. The post holder will strive to be efficient and ensure cost effectiveness throughout their role.
- Supervise the daily tasks of the Food and Beverage Assistants and ensure that they have received the appropriate training and work effectively alongside other colleagues at Torre Abbey.
- To support the Senior Commercial Coordinator in relation to health and safety related to the Food and Beverage offer and to deputise for Senior Commercial Coordinator if required but supported by Torre Abbey Manager.
- To ensure the Food and Beverage areas are presented to an agreed standard so that customers enjoy a comfortable and welcoming environment.

- Deliver all aspects of the Food and Beverage service to a high standard.

- Work alongside the Senior Commercial Coordinator to seek out ways to reduce energy consumption and waste.
- Follow defined Food and Beverage processes and procedures whilst ensuring that these meet and exceed Food Hygiene regulations.
- To ensure cleanliness and hygiene of all Food and Beverage areas is of the highest standard.
- A first-class welcome and enjoyable experience for all visitors to Torre Abbey.
- Staff and volunteers work in an environment that fosters individual commitment, enthusiasm, team-working and competence to deliver an excellent service.

3. List key duties and accountabilities of the post
- To support seasonal Food and Beverage offers which reflects the exhibition programming, events and Torre Abbey’s Spirit of Place.
- Support in the excellent presentation of Food and Beverage areas and create enticing displays.
- In the absence of the Senior Commercial Coordinator set up and supervise the café and oversee and train the Food and Beverage Assistants as required. Decisions will need to be referred to the Senior Commercial Coordinator or the Torre Abbey Manager in their absence.
- Provide a hands-on food production and service.
- To support the Senior Commercial Coordinator to maintain control of stock levels within norms and minimal waste. Support annual stock taking for Food and Beverage.
- Support the Senior Commercial Coordinator to ensure the optimum use of staff hours.
- To deliver excellent customer service every time by modelling our Core Values and Spirit of Place.
- To answer all enquiries in a professional manner and maximise sales opportunities at all times and refer more complex enquires through the Senior Commercial Coordinator or the Torre Abbey Manager.
- Follow all financial processes and procedures relating to cash handling, float management and till reconciliation daily.
- To actively liaise with suppliers in line with agreed service levels and quality standards where directed by the Senior Commercial Coordinator.
- Follow and support procedures to minimise risk to visitors, staff, volunteers and contractors including safe storage of food and beverages and that the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene are met at all times. Ensure the Five Star food hygiene rating is achieved and maintained. Be aware of Torre Abbey’s licensing restrictions.
- Support the cleaning rota, deep clean of café area and completion of daily records for health and safety.
- Report any issues with the repair and maintenance of Food and Beverage equipment and machinery to the Abbey’s Duty Manager.
- Be a key holder for Torre Abbey and able to undertake opening up and locking up procedures where required.
- Responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults at all times in liaison with the Safeguarding lead, the Learning & Community Engagement Coordinator.
4. Budgetary/Financial Responsibilities of the post
- No direct budgetary responsibility but there will be stretching sales targets to deliver.
5. Supervision/Line Management Responsibilities of the post
- Provide oversight of the day-to-day duties of Food and Beverage Assistants in the absence of the Senior Commercial Coordinator.
6. Working environment and conditions of the post
- Normal café/kitchen working conditions.
- Working at Torre Abbey and within its grounds. This may involve some working in an outdoors environment and working within a historic house location.
- There may be some off-site working, such as at networking & sector events, promotional exhibitions or similar.
7. Physical demands of the post
- This post can require the applicant to be on their feet for the whole shift.
- There will be lifting involved in moving and displaying stock.
- Ability to assist with evacuation of persons in a wheelchair during emergency procedures and act as Fire Marshall in event of a fire/emergency.

- Café and kitchen equipment e.g. Oven, hob, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, still, barista coffee machine.

- Set of keys and use of alarm activation system for access to Café & Spanish Barn.

- The Council operates a Smoke-Free Policy and the post-holder is prohibited from smoking in any of the Council's buildings (including Council owned and Council leased buildings, but excluding designated areas in residential schemes), enclosed spaces within the curtilage of buildings, and Council vehicles. The Council does not permit smoking breaks within work time, however, in services where the flexi-scheme is in operation, employees may take reasonable break times outside of core hours, in accordance with flexi-time arrangements. Employees should follow the flexi-scheme procedure for agreeing time away from their duties in the normal manner with their immediate colleagues and line manager, with break start and finish times being recorded, as with any other break-time arrangement.
- The post-holder is expected to familiarise themselves with and adhere to all relevant Council Policies and Procedures.
- The post-holder must comply with the Council’s Health and Safety requirements as outlined in the H&S policy appropriate to the role.
- This post is office based at Torre Abbey, but the post holder may be required to move their base to any other location within the Council at a future date.
