1. Key purpose of job
- Assist in the effective operation of the Food and Beverage offer in a variety of duties, which could include basic food and beverage preparation and service, maintaining presentation standards and supervised kitchen tasks. You will strive to be efficient and ensure cost effectiveness in all the work you do.
- Deliver excellent customer service every time to a broad range of visitors and do everything possible to consistently exceed visitor expectations by going the extra mile. The post holder will model our Core Values and Spirit of Place.
- Undertake training in service standards, food and beverage preparation, to enable excellent product knowledge and up selling to drive the average transaction value.
- To ensure the Food and Beverage areas are presented to an agreed standard so that customers enjoy a comfortable and welcoming environment.
- To provide support and assistance for a wide range of events and activities in Torre Abbey and the Spanish Barn, the gardens and the grounds (and occasionally in off-site locations), as instructed by the leadership team.

- To ensure cleanliness and hygiene of all Food and Beverage areas is of the highest standard.
- A first class welcome and enjoyable experience for all visitors to Torre Abbey.
- Assist with the catering offer at events and other engagement opportunities. Events will be catered effectively.
- Staff and volunteers work in an environment that fosters individual commitment, enthusiasm, team-working and competence to deliver an excellent service.
- Refer complaints to Food and Beverage Manager or Duty Manager.
3. List key duties and accountabilities of the post
- Hands on food production and service.
- Maintain high standards of presentation of food and drink at all times.
- Seek out opportunities to sell products by developing your product knowledge to share with visitors, be aware of sales targets and use every opportunity to exceed them.
- Maintain accurate stock records in line with procedure and action stock check as and when directed.
- Undertake washing up and general cleaning duties to maintain high presentation and cleanliness at all times. Ensure the Food and Beverage areas are presented to an agreed standard so that customers enjoy a comfortable and welcoming environment.
- Support delivery of the Food and Beverage operations and maximise sales so that the profit can be reinvested in Torre Abbey. Pass on information to visitors about our sustainable food production and how the menu links to Torre Abbey’s spirit of place
- To deliver excellent customer service every time by modelling our Core Values and Spirit of Place.
- To answer all enquiries in a professional manner and maximise sales opportunities at all times.
- Follow all financial processes and procedures including cash handling, float management and till reconciliation daily.
- Follow and support procedures to minimise risk to visitors, staff, volunteers and contractors including safe storage of food and beverages and that the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene are met at all times. Ensure 5 star food hygiene rating is achieved and maintained. Be aware of Torre Abbey’s licensing restrictions.
- Report any issues with the repair and maintenance of Food and Beverage equipment and machinery to the Food and Beverage Manager or Duty Manager.
- Where appropriate sell admissions and actively promote the benefits of 1196 membership to visitors to support stretching targets.
- Support the Visitor Welcome Team as required including taking admissions payments, room hire set up and retail sales.
- Responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults at all times in liaison with the Safeguarding lead, the Visitor Experience and Programmes Officer.
4. Budgetary/Financial Responsibilities of the post
- No direct budgetary responsibility but there will be stretching sales targets to help deliver.
- Food and Beverage cash handling.

- Normal café/kitchen working conditions.
- Working at Torre Abbey and within its grounds. This may involve some working in an outdoors environment and working within a historic house location.
- There may be some off-site working, such as at networking & sector events, promotional exhibitions or similar.
7. Physical demands of the post
- This post can require the applicant to be on their feet for the whole shift.
- There will be lifting involved in moving and displaying stock.
- Ability to assist with evacuation of persons in a wheelchair during emergency procedures and act as Fire Marshall in event of a fire/emergency.

- The Council operates a Smoke-Free Policy and the post-holder is prohibited from smoking in any of the Council's buildings (including Council owned and Council leased buildings, but excluding designated areas in residential schemes), enclosed spaces within the curtilage of buildings, and Council vehicles. The Council does not permit smoking breaks within work time, however, in services where the flexi-scheme is in operation, employees may take reasonable break times outside of core hours, in accordance with flexi-time arrangements. Employees should follow the flexi-scheme procedure for agreeing time away from their duties in the normal manner with their immediate colleagues and line manager, with break start and finish times being recorded, as with any other break-time arrangement.
- The post-holder is expected to familiarise themselves with and adhere to all relevant Council Policies and Procedures.
- The post-holder must comply with the Council’s Health and Safety requirements as outlined in the H&S policy appropriate to the role.
- This post is office based at Torre Abbey but the post holder may be required to move their base to any other location within the Council at a future date.
- The post-holder must be committed to the Council’s Core Values for employees – “Torbay Council employees are committed to being forward thinking, people orientated and adaptable - always with integrity”. Evidence will be sought during the probation and appraisal processes.
