1. Key purpose of job
- To perform a significant role in the corporate implementation of Microsoft Power BI.
- To perform the analysis required to determine user requirements in terms of Microsoft Power BI solutions.
- To assist in data modelling and populating the corporate data warehouse for Microsoft Power BI solutions.
- To design and implement Microsoft Power BI solutions (following appropriate training) to provide strategic, financial, and business information at all levels within the organisation to support informed decision making.
- To provide specialist advice and support to Torbay Council Power BI users in Microsoft Power BI design and best practices.
- To support effective business change by building relationships with senior strategists, planners, report designers and operational business partners.

- Business departments utilising accurate and effective data visualisations supporting the decision-making process.
- Torbay Council Microsoft Power BI users supported by a subject matter expert.

3. List key duties and accountabilities of the post
- The postholder will be expected to develop their existing knowledge whilst in this role, including Microsoft Power BI and Data Warehouse Management. Mentoring by senior team members and training will be provided.
- Liaises with service users at all levels regarding requirement gathering for new Microsoft Power BI solutions.
- Assists more senior team members to prepare the data required for Microsoft Power BI solutions.
- Develops Microsoft Power BI Reports and Dashboards
- Ensures the availability, integrity, and accessibility of data for reporting purposes through the application of formal data structures and protection measures.
- Adheres to configuration management, change management and release management procedures and controls.
- Assists in database support activities and with specified maintenance procedures.
- Communicates effectively with users/clients by telephone, MS Teams and email, assists in the provision of advice and guidance on matters relating to the provision of BI solutions.
- To carry out duties in accordance with the Council’s Information Security Standards and Human Resource Policies; compliance with the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and any other relevant legislation that directly affects service delivery.
- Ensures that data is kept secure, accessible and that the principles of GDPR are always adhered to.
- Uses available resources to gain an up-to-date knowledge of any relevant IT or BI field and monitors the market to gain knowledge and understanding of currently emerging technologies.
- Provides specialist advice and support on the use of Business Intelligence tools, including the support of live reports and dashboards (following training).

- The Council operates a Smoke-Free Policy and the post-holder is prohibited from smoking in any of the Council's buildings (including Council owned and Council leased buildings, but excluding designated areas in residential schemes), enclosed spaces within the curtilage of buildings, and Council vehicles. The Council does not permit smoking breaks within work time, however, in services where the flexi-scheme is in operation, employees may take reasonable break times outside of core hours, in accordance with flexi-time arrangements. Employees should follow the flexi-scheme procedure for agreeing time away from their duties in the normal manner with their immediate colleagues and line manager, with break start and finish times being recorded, as with any other break-time arrangement.
- The post-holder is expected to familiarise themselves with and adhere to all relevant Council Policies and Procedures.
- The post-holder must comply with the Council’s Health and Safety requirements as outlined in the H&S policy appropriate to the role.
- The post is eligible for both hybrid and permanent home working.
