General
1. By law the vessel must have an MCA certificate. Part of this certificate is to comply with domestic safety management code which includes: - ship construction, stability, fire protection, fire exits, survivability, maximum number of passengers carried, safe means of access, safety equipment, navigational safety, certified crew, manning levels and training, operational limits, health and safety, recording passenger numbers, safety announcements, co-operation with emergency services, search and rescue plans, emergency procedures.
The Prevention of Crime and Disorder
1. There must be a 'safe capacity' limit.
2. The effects of violence shall be reduced through the use of plastic drinking glasses.
3. Alcohol sales shall be ended in good time prior to disembarkation of the vessel.
4. There shall be no heavily discounted drinking promotions.
5. The premises shall reduce the risk of excessive alcohol consumption by providing reasonably priced soft drinks.
Public Safety
1. The risks to the public and crew shall be assessed while embarking and disembarking as stated in the Domestic Safety Management Code.
2. The premises shall ensure that the number of passengers shall not exceed that for which the vessel is licensed.
3. Emergency training shall be provided and logs kept on board.
4. There shall be controlled entry by 'clicker' and ticket system as approved by the MCA.
The Prevention of Public Nuisance
1. The vessel shall reduce any excess noise by ensuring noise levels are kept to a minimum when in the vicinity of harbours.
2. Sound at sea shall not be excessive.
3. No light disturbance shall interfere with residents or other businesses as the vessel disembarks at the end of a long pier and is moored in the new town dock.
4. Passengers shall be asked to disembark quietly and are escorted individually off the vessel by crew.
The Protection of Children from Harm
1. If a person looks under 21 they shall be asked for ID. Suitable forms of ID shall include passport, photocard driving licence with photo, proof of age scheme (pass). Alcohol shall not be served to anyone who can not produce ID.
2. Children of any age shall be allowed on the vessel and in the bar area.
3. No children under the age of 16 shall be allowed on the vessel without an accompanying adult.
4. In respect of large groups of children i.e. school parties, teacher, pupil ratios must be observed.
5. All scheduled daytime and evening cruises shall be family orientated.
