General
1. All children under 16 must be supervised by a responsible adult whilst on site.
2. Authorised supervisor must be on site at all times.
3. All equipment, appliances and buildings must be maintained in good working order.
4. All staff must ensure they are aware of and adhere to the steps outlined below.
Prevention of Crime and Disorder
1. There shall be a notice at two main entrances stating opening hours and hours licensed to sell alcohol.
2. There shall be an internal communication system to warn staff of theft/underage customers/disturbance.
3. There shall be a full fire and burglar alarm.
4. The occupancy of building shall be monitored at all times by staff.
5. All staff shall be trained to deal with difficult customers and a report/monitoring system shall be in place.
6. Site shall be locked at the end of each day and no public access after closing.
7. All cash shall be locked in safe and tills left empty and open at the end of the day.
8. Cash shall be counted in a secure room, obscured from public view.
9. Drunken and disoderly behaviour shall not be permitted and people shall be asked to leave the site if causing a disturbance.
Public Safety
1. Qualified first aiders must be on site at all times and first aid boxes provided.
2. Health and Safety notices shall be sited stating correct procedures for handwashing when leaving farm and entering shop/cafe, directed to hand washing facilities.
3. Bio-security shall be in place to prevent cross contamination from the farm to the farm shop and cafe - disinfectant mats shall be located at the start of nature trail and adjacent to handwashing facilities at the front of the visitor centre.
4. Any farming activity shall take place outside of opening hours; if this is not possible work shall be carried out away from the public in a fenced off area and signs put up informing people that work is in progress.
5. Public access to livestock shall be controlled.
6. There shall be clear signs stating animals should not be touched or fed.
7. There shall be public access to areas where farming equipment and machinery is stored.
8. No dogs (except for assistance dogs) shall be allowed on site.
9. No glass or alcohol shall be taken onto nature trail - which shall be clearly signed.
10. A log book shall be kept of all inspections and incidents.
11. All entrances and exits shall be kept clear of goods and people; non-slip surfaces in cafe and shop.
12. There shall be restricted access to balcony in cafe to the public depending on weather.
13. All cleaning products shall be stored away securely from kitchen and bakery and areas open to the public.
14. There shall be wet surface signs for spillages and when cleaning taking place.
15. There shall be provisions for visitors with disabilities - disabled toilets, a lift and all paths and walkways wheelchair friendly.
16. There shall be access for emergency vehicles onto the farm.
17. The venue shall be non-smoking.
18. Fire Safety Precautions shall in place (designated incident controller and floor marshals) and fire extinguishers shall be installed.
19. There shall be an annual fire system check and regular drills.
20. There shall be fire exits and alarm.
21. There shall be limited parking for shoppers and visitors with disabilities in farmyard, located away from main public areas. The main car park on opposite side of lane to farm. Pedestrian crossing signs marked on highway where pedestrians shall cross.
22. There shall be outside lighting from visitor centre to and in car park.
23. Food hygiene - all staff shall be trained in food hygiene and Food Standards Agency's Safer Food, Better Business action plan shall be implemented. This shall include pest control, cross contamination and cleaning.
Prevention of Public Nuisance
1. Refuse including bottles shall be deposited in refuse area during daylight hours only.
2. Refuse shall be in a designated and secure area at the rear end of the building. There shall be a contract with Quay Waste for collection of recycling and Torbay Council collection for main waste.
3. There shall be a good provision of bins around the site and signs encouraging people to dispose of their waste responsbly.
4. Deliveries shall be made only in daylight hours.
5. Noise levels shall be monitored by staff at evening events - no events shall take place after 12 midnight.
6. The car park shall be locked each day after closing to avoid people loitering.
The Protection of Children From Harm
1. There shall be clear signs in shop and cafe stating that alcohol is strictly for over 18's only.
2. In the shop, spirits and liquors shall be positioned out of reach of young children.
3. There shall be no cigarette sales.
4. Staff shall be trained to prevent sale of alcohol to under 18's - proof of age policy for any customer purchasing alcohol who looks under 21 years of age.
5. All drinks for children that are to be taken outside must be transferred into cups and shall not be served in glass bottles.
